devotions

At Grace Church, we value the Word of God (Isaiah 55:11; James 1:22) and pursuing spiritual growth (1 Peter 2:2, Proverbs 27:17)

As we live out those values, join us in our daily devotions.  We use a devotional model called SOAP.  When we SOAP, we pick out a Scripture from our daily reading, we make an Observation, we write about an Application for our lives, and then we write a Prayer.

how to soap

1) To SOAP, you will need a Bible, Life Journal Reading Plan, a journal, and a pen.

2) Life Journal Reading Plan Bookmarks are published monthly and are available at the Welcome Center.  You can also download the reading plan or purchase a Life Journal at the Welcome Center.

3) Follow the steps below:

S - Scripture Find today's date in the Bible reading plan.  Take time reading and allow God to speak to you.  When you are done, look for a verse that particularly spoke to you and write it in your journal.

O - Observation What do you think God is saying in this scripture?  Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you.  Paraphrase and write this scripture down, in your own words, in your journal.

A - Application Personalize what you have read by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now.  Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life.  Write how this scripture can apply to you today.

P - Prayer This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you.
